Summa S160 T / Onyx 7.3.? / Multiple Cut Paths

I want to be able to use multiple types of cut paths on a file. I would like to have "CutCountour" be used to cut at certain settings, and then use "CutCountourFull" to do a die cut around the image.

Onyx sees both lines, but in Cut Server they are merged together, and when I hit cut they cut the same way.

How do I get it so I can assign one type of cut/knife pressure/etc to CutCountour and a different type of cut/knife pressure/etc to CutContourFull?

According to the manual this should be doable, but it doesn't explain what it is I am missing.

Thank you.

Although you can do this in other software, you can't do it in Onyx in one pass.

I understand the "flex cut" option will be in v8 sometime next year.

Two passes is fine. That doesn't bother me. The trouble is that Onyx is combining my two different cut paths (contour and die) in to one path in Cut Server.

I guess what would need to happen is for two cut files to show up. One for the countour cutting, which I'd do, and then the other for the die cut which I'd do second. Is that possible? Or anything similar to get me to my desired end result?

Thank you

In Onyx you either have a cut line or you don't...it can't distinguish between types of cut.

Onyx just sees a line that requires cutting - how the line cuts will depend on the pressure / speed settings you have applied in CutServer or on the cutter itself.

To do what you want it to, you need to only select one set of lines in your Application - name them CutContour, or whatever, and go through the process of printing and then cutting them to your required depth.

Then go back into Illustrator with the original file, rename a different set of lines to cut & run through the process again - this time choosing a different cutter setting ie a deeper cut. Also you need to set your printer to print to file so you don't waste paper printing this second file. Then put the original print back into the cutter & and select the newer cut file in Cut Server (& cross your fingers) If you use a cutter that reads barcodes this will have to be cut & pasted as well.

Basically this is doing two separate print & cut jobs - you are just reusing the same print to get two different cut depths on one sheet. Not an efficient workflow I'm afraid but possible.

Hotspur is correct.

That's exactly how I've had to do it before, which is a pain. I would prefer it read the cut paths in order like CutContour1 first, then go back and do CutContour2, but unfortunately when it generates the XML for CutServer, it just adds the coordinates for everything at the same time it would seem.

It would be nice too if you could atleast enable/disable paths from within CutServer, so in this situation you could cut the job, then disable the inside paths leaving only the outside path selected and then send the job again to have it do the die cut. That would atleast same some time compared to the current method...but it doesn't help here either because it doesn't currently do that either. We can dream though right? Smiley

Ugh! Scott am I remembering correctly that your brother in law or similar wrote Cut Server? Anyway you could mention this to him? I'm up here in Salt Lake if he wants a good tester or more information.

I did actually ask him this morning and this was his reply...

Quote:No, the software doesn't currently do what they are wanting. They want to be able to have different cuts for each layer. That's been a pretty common request, but the software doesn't support it right now

He did say it could be a useful feature to have, but did not confirm that it was already in the plan for v8. I'll see if there is any more details, though I doubt it.
