Do we have any PrepEdge Pro users here?

Marco knows the product intimately and I'm sure Hotspur has plenty of experience with it as well, but on top of myself and those two users, I'm curious to see if anyone else has/was/is running it.

I created this section because I feel it deserves it's own forum.

Hi Scott

I tried the free 30 day version. But I didn't like it. I wanted to use it for cutcontours, "colorchecking" and white ink primarily.
I think you can do all the same things in CS4. But with tools that you are already familiar with.
I guess that all onyx users has some version of Creative Suite installed so having to pay a lot of money for Prep edge doesn't make sense to me.

Hi Scott,

I had a go with the full version, but found it clunky and unworkable. It felt unfinished. eg. Tiling very visual, simple to do, but submitting job submitted all tiles as one large file. Just a settings issue i suspect, just needed polishing. Hem and eyelet layout tool very useful, but didn't warrant investment. Keeping an eye on future versions.

Had a go with the demo version, but in my case there were not many advantages to my workflow (CS4) or things i could only do in Prepedge!
It is way to expensive imho.
The easy tiling option should be implemented in the Productionhouse RIP, that's were it
belongs imho.

Just my opinion though.

That's what I said too! I personally think this should replace 'preflight' and be built in with v8. That was my suggestion anyway.

Hi Scott,

What exactly do you mean with replacing "preflight"?
i always check my prints in Preflight for errors or colorshifts.
Is the workflow going to change in v8?

Regards,

Henry

What I meant is that I personally would like to see the built in preflight tool to function like, and have, most of the features that PrepEdge has. I've always felt that the preflight tool was lacking, although it does okay for most things. I've shared with Onyx over the years my ideas of what I wish preflight could do, and now all of those have been addressed in PrepEdge. It would be nice to see them beef up the features in preflight to make it more like a PrepEdge Lite version.

Does that make sense?

As far as the overall workflow in v8, I can't really say as I don't honestly know. I doubt that it will stray very far from how it works now, but with a complete code overhaul there will be room to fine tune it a little more and to add additional functionality. Onyx is keeping pretty tight lipped on the development however, and haven't said hardly anything at all. I even have a personal connection with the man in charge of it all, but he's not talking either =)

I installed PEP as it was in Beta, and found some nice things inside.
But I don't like to have an additional Program. I asked to implement those nice features in Preflight but ONYX denied. (I also asked for as I tested Layout Tool the first time, but they denied too)

In my opinion it would be really nice to merge Preflight,Layout Tool and PEP into a new PREFLIGHT PRO ! ;-)

This would be nice !

I still have PEP on my MAC, but using it max once per month to check PDF attributes, embedded Profiles or other things ....

I fully agree with this! That's what I was hoping they would do for X10, but my dreams did not come true.
