Picture Framing (GS6000 & Thrive 11)

Hey all, I've been struggling with this for a while now, but the automatic ink restriction in Onyx11 is great most of the time but every once in a while I have trouble that leads to picture framing (pooling at the edge of my patches) in my advanced calibration and ICC swatches. Then I go back to my ink restriction and manually bring these numbers down which eventually, after much playing and testing, provides a decent result.

It almost seems as if the automated system isn't restricting enough. I'm attempting to use an i1 Isis to read swatches with the UV cut filter off.

Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks!

Is it happening in all colors?

It's happening with blended colors, not singles. My calibration and standard ink limit swatches are fine, it begins in the advanced calibration swatches then leads to issues in the ink limit (the large manually read) chart. Even when restricting to low values here (less than 200 in some cases) I get picture framing in my ICC swatches, which I then have to go back to square one and manually restrict the inks at the first stage ink restriction.

I hope that makes sense.

What material are you printing on? and what profile are you trying to run it under? what spectrophotometer do you use? are you letting the ink dry fully with a fan near it taping your swatch to a table?

General Formulations 209 and 212 vinyls, creating a new profile, and i1 Isis. Inks are fully cured.

How long have you had the i1? it may need a recalibration from xrite to get better readings.

It's been a couple of years since it was shipped out for recalibration, however, the diagnostics all pass.

Nope, you're not doing anything wrong, and there's nothing wrong with your device.

This is simply a limitation of "automated" profiling.

There's no way when printing individual colors to know how a media will take multiple colors. So, sometimes you'll get what you're getting here...and then other times you might get an instance where your media could actually take more ink and produce a larger gamut, but the automatic restrictions keep it from doing so.
