Media Manager won't build a profile

Onyx Version:
7.3.2
Printer(s):
JV3-130, JV33-160, Summa S160D

We just upgraded to X10 Production House and when we go through the steps of building a profile in there, when it gets to the step to actually build the ICC profile, that "page" is grayed out and it skips it altogether, so no profile is generated. I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Drop size control is also grayed out.

I'm going through the steps in order, completing each one correctly I assume (it gives me a green checkmark after each step). So am I missing a step, missing a setting, or is something else wrong entirely?

Do you have a spectrophotometer? (or, if you have an HP, do you have one with an eye one built in?)

If you do, do you have it set up as a color management device? If not, it might recognize that you don't have the capabilities to read in swatches, and just grays that area out. I don't believe any step before that requires reading in swatches.

Yup, using an i1, set up right. I can read the patches it prints for the linearize and calibrate steps, it just won't let me into the "icc profile" step at all. To be clear, I'm doing this using the new "wizard" in X10, not using the legacy profiling procedure. In the wizard, it takes you through step by step, in order (they call it "print, read, next"). I can do every step except for the icc profile step, which is there but grayed out an unaccessible.

Well, I'm kind of at a loss, but I'm sure someone can shed some light on this.
What printer and media combination are you using?

I'm at a loss too... Trying to profile a GS6000 and a JV33, tried both printers, various media, same thing each time.

We upgraded PosterShop 7.3 to ProductionHouse X10 so my dealer and I are both starting to wonder if something got lost in translation there when upgrading the hardware key's permissions. Still it doesn't fully make sense that part of the profiling steps are available while others are not.

This looks like a similar problem that I had with 7.3.2. Not only did I need the patch from the Onyx site. But I had to run a repair/install and change a few lines of code. I don't know if this will be of any help but here's the solution from Onyx:

> To resolve this error, go to the directory /ONYX/COMMON and delete all
> of the files that start with ONXCMMBUILD and ONXICCCMMBUILD. Also
> delete the /ONYX/MediaManager directory, and then run the application
> installation. It will perform a repair install and replace the deleted files.

> After repairing the installation, go to the directory
> /ONYX/MediaManager/Bin and open the MediaManager.vmoptions file with either notepad or wordpad.
> Change the number next to XMX to 512. Save the file and you should be
> able to print out of Media Manager.
>
> If there is no MediaManager.vmoptions file in the Bin folder, then go
> to the /ONYX/XRIP/Bin folder and copy the xrip.vmoptions file. Go
> back to the /ONYX/MediaManager/Bin directory and paste the file.
> Rename the file to MediaManager.vmoptions and then make the number change mentioned above.
Hope this is of help.

You might want to have your key checked by ONYX. It sounds like you don't have a license. (MM grays out the ICC build step if there is no license for it on the key).

Yeah, we just found out this is the issue... Apparently the upgrade that was supposed to be from PosterShop to Production House was actually to Postershop X10, but ProductionHouse was installed. So it runs like Production House, looks like Production House, but the key is limiting the features to PosterShop's. Ugh.
