Custom Media Width not accepted

Firstly, just to say thankyou to whoever paid for this site to keep going.. I came on the other week & it was a holding page asking if I was interested in buying it.. I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! where do I go now!

But here you are! Grin

My problem before I start the run down of whats gone on..

We have a Mimaki JV3 160s (yup, its still going!) - the maximum media it will accept is 63" - 1600mm. On XP with ProdHouse v7.1.0.40, I had a media called 63 Inch WIDE.. it was set to 1600mm x 30m & it worked (see attached image for in rip proof!) - I could set images up to 1600mm max (without tick marks) & they would print. For reasons described in more detail below, I had to do a fresh instal on a new PC which is running Windows 7. All is working fine, but I cannot set the media width on the same printer to the same 63" (1600mm) the maximum it will allow me to set is 62"! Now, that may not seem a lot but 25mm short on the width is quite a lot! I realise that the printer has media guides which cut 5mm of the printable area from each side.. but thats still 15mm shorter than it needs to be!

What I want to know is - what do I have to change to allow me to create a media which is the same as the maximum width the printer will allow - as it did before!

The long story..
Finally took the plunge & updated my steady ProdHouse 7.1.0.40 version & upgraded to v7.3.2 - backed up before doing it etc. but didn't need to as all my previous settings (other than rip settings due to the new features) were still there so I could just carry on a normal - excellent just what I wanted!

Then my computer went down - PSU or motherboard, not aure which yet as were still waiting for the PSU to turn up..

In the mean time we bought a recon PC with double the processor power & twice the ram bundled with Win 7 Pro.. Speedy!

Copied my 7.1.0.40 onyx folder from my backup location onto the new C: drive.. then i've done the 7.3.2 upgrade again. Had to change settings & add printers again as they weren't already there this time & i've been through the entire onyx folder making all the .exe files 'run as administrator' as default, so there should be no issues. (my only bug bear with Win7 or Vista, is the 'run as administrator' thing).

I used profile download manager or whatever its called to download the latest v7.3.2 printer drivers (seleted 1 media for each printer just to get the driver as we have custom medias) & i've made sure i'm running the latest HASP which is Win 7 compatible. The old medias have imported correctly & there doesn't appear to be much of a difference in colour output.. I've also imported the old quick sets from the backups I made. As I say, the rip is working & were printing to all our printers as we were before - but I cannot set a custom media width to 1600mm as I did before. I have not checked with the HP if it is the same - though I have just checked the screen shot I did for that that I did at the same time as the attached.. & I could have sworn I set the custom media width '60 Inch Roll WIDE' to 60".. but it shows in the list as 59.45" - somewhere along the line that one must have changed while using v7.1.0.40 but I hadn't realised.. but the Mimaki was deffinately 1600mm as shown attached.

I don't have any anti virus running atm - or at least not doing an active check.. as I know this has caused some issues with not setting medias or saving settings in the past. It is saving my changes - just not accepting this full width media setting.. defaulting to less than what the machine is capable of.. which makes no sense!

PLEASE HELP! its driving me (even more) nuts!

Cheers,
Chris @ SWCL

Hi

You can manually edit the widths by going to the Onyx folder - db - printers - mimaki jv3 - .settings xml

You can open the xml in wordpad and scroll down near the end where the media sizes are stated and edit them manually.

I'm using my V10 to browse to the settings file so it might be different in v7 but not so much hopefully.

Thanks Hotspur..

NAILED IT!! Grin

Its told the printer its 63"/1600mm wide.. & not 62" wide.. it shows 1600mm in the media width screen

& I can rip an image that is 1600mm wide & it will process no problem & go to wait print..

highlighted image ripped full width & top window shows it waiting to timeout & start printing!

Thanks You're a legend!

God bless OnyxTalk Wink

Sorry about that! My registration for the domain apparently expired in the first part of November and I let the renewal slip my mind so the registrar threw up that nice little page.

I actually hadn't had time to visit the site in well over a week and I found the same thing you did and quickly got it renewed. I did have a good moment of panic however and I think I may have wet my pants, but it's all back running now. (obviously).

I've used this trick many times over the years. I posted instructions a couple times on here as well, though it's not easy to find. Perhaps I should make a tips & tricks deal for it or something.

Here's one of the posts from last year.

I did do a search but that thread did not come up.. perhaps my search was too specific or perhaps it was that the thread didn't use the combo of words I searched for... perhaps due to the vast number of international users trying to convert into english - sometimes unseccessfully (no offence people! Grin)

Either way, I'm glad you're back & glad I got the answer so swiftly!

& you were right about the upgrade to v7.3.2 - such a simple upgrade & everything kept work as it did, esspecially my media profiles! Should have had faith & taken the plunge much sooner! Wink

Chris.
