Creating Substrate Profiles without Media Manager

Hi ONYXTalk, just curious here if any list members are creating substrate profiles without Media Manager and/or the full Production House license, so users that just have PosterShop?
If so, how do you import custom iPro Spectro manually built profiles into PosterShop as input printer spaces?

Whilst we do have the full Production House at work really would like to know if necessary when our preferred upgrade cash is going to X-Rite’s iProfiler software and the newish X-Rite i1 Spectro 2?

In these difficult financial print times we need to ask if any software saving solutions/workflow recommendations are common practice.

Regards,
Christian

Sorry not sure I understand?
If you have Postershop you will have Media manager - just not the ability to add an icc to the media profile. When you get to this point in the profiling workflow you simply import your icc that was built with your Xrite profiling software rather than building it all in Onyx as you do with Production House.
If you have Ripcentre then you don't have Media Manager at all and you simply cant build full media profiles for Onyx even if you have Xrite profiling software.
None of this has anything to do with using your icc as an input profile.
Input profiles should not use your printer icc - you need to set this as your proof profile in the quickset. Just export the icc from either Onyx or your xrite software and import it into your quickset colour management - its nothing to do with which software you use to make your icc.
If you already have ProductionHouse I don't understand why you would pay for a second piece of profiling software?
Onyx color engine is better for inkjet than Xrite which is an offset colour engine so always go with Onyx as its easier as well as better.

Hi Hotspur, very helpful regarding the Quickset proof profile info and setting the printer profile to this space.

Can I please ask another quick question, do you use DeviceLink profiles at all?

Thanks again,
Christian

Hi

Its not a technology that works well for most applications in this industry - it's really an automation feature for proof systems and as such the typical sign & display requirements of digital inkjet with a production rip won't use such a technology - it is too inflexible and lives outside traditional colour management.

Thus Onyx and the other popular production inkjet rips won't use device link profiles. I think GMG still does but that's a proofing rip that tries to stray into production inkjet territory but it really lives on the other side of the fence where hi-res Epsons are driven mainly for proofing purposes and separations for a press are the norm so things like K registration are more important.
